Gallery Soundscape
In May 2009 Newcastle launched its £26m flagship visitor attraction, the Great North Museum. As visitors enter the museum they are greeted by the Diversity of Life gallery and its impressive collection of animals and creatures. To complement the display, the museum required a soundscape; an audio adventure combining animal and environmental sounds taking the visitor on a journey around the world.
It was important to create a piece that was engaging and accurate. Working closely with the Keeper of Biology, a 15 minute loop was generated that reflected both day and night and the habitats and climate zones of the surrounding animals. The soundscape combined sourced library samples and live location recordings with complementary sound design, creating an authentic and immersive experience.
"Thanks to you and your team for all your help with the Natural Science Gallery"
